CARLTON COMMUNICATIONS and UNITED NEWS & MEDIA have announced the abandonment of their planned merger that should have created the largest commercial radio television broadcaster in Britain. The two partners have not accepted the condition issued by the British government to authorise the merger, namely the sale of MERIDIAN, the regional television licence belonging to UNITED NEWS & MEDIA.
