Luxembourg, 17/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank has granted a loan of EUR 80 million to Twinerg in Luxembourg, for the construction and operation of a combined cycle power station running on natural gas, in Esch-sur-Alzette. Twinerg is 65% held by the Belgian electricity producer Electrabel, and 17.5% by two Luxembourg base companies Cegedel and Sotel (Arbed group). After its planned completion at the end of 2001, the power station should provide one third of the Luxembourg consumption and replace the present imports, indicates the EIB in its communiqué, while noting: "The assistance of the EIB will enable to continue the development, at a national level of high return electricity production and, at the same time, encourage the development of the Esch-sur-Alzette region which is falls under Objective 2 of the Community regional policy.
