Brussels, 10/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 11 July two Cooperation Councils will be held in Brussels with two republics of the former USSR, with which the EU has signed Partnership and Cooperation Agreements (PCAs): Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
During these two meetings, the Fifteen (who will, in principle, be represented by the ministerial Troika, although other ministers will be able to take part in the debates) mainly have the intention of pointing to the lack of progress made in these two countries regarding democratisation and the strengthening of human rights. It will of course also be a matter of implementation by APC countries and of the possibility to strengthen cooperation in the field of trade and investment, political dialogue, human rights and democracy, the fight against drugs trafficking and organised crime, etc.
