Brussels, 05/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - In preparation for the Belgian EU Council Presidency beginning 1 July 2001, Laurette Onkelinkx, Belgian Vice Prime Minister and Employment Minister is to begin, on Thursday, a series of bilateral contacts with a meeting with European Employment Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou. She will present the three main directions of the social chapter on which she plans to focus the Belgian Presidency: a) timetable of formal and informal "Employment-Social Policy" Councils as well as conferences that she hopes to set in place on equal opportunities, the quality of employment and Union enlargement; b) priorities, including above all follow-up to the Lisbon Summit, equal opportunities, the fight against poverty, enhancement of the "Luxembourg process", and social cohesion; c) general directions for work of the three successive Presidencies (France, Sweden, Belgium).
