03/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Parliament's "Development" Committee, Joaquim Miranda (Port, GUE), is to participate in an "international small-holding mission" in Colombia from 7 to 11 July, alongside, among others, the now famous spokesperson for the Confédération Paysanne Francaise, José Bové. The aim of the mission, organised by Via Campesina, is to "observe in what ways rural communities (Colombian) are dispossessed of their land, and who, multinationals or local economic groups, benefit from this violence". The mission comes within the framework of a campaign organised by European and Colombian NGOs to attract attention to the exploitation of the territories of the UWA Indians by the oil company Oxy.
