Brussels, 30/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission gave the go ahead to the acquisition by Ford Motor Company of the British automobile company Land Rover from the German manufacturer BMW. This transaction poses no problems for competition, the only country in the European Economic Area were the cumulated market share for this type of vehicle concerned - private special four wheel drive cars (jeeps) - being the United Kingdom were the gain in market share remains marginal due to the limited presence of Ford in this segment. Furthermore, there exist numerous powerful competitors in the sector, such as Honda, DaimlerChrysler, Suzuki and Toyota.
