Brussels, 30/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Committee on Agriculture at the European Parliament is to meet on Monday evening in order to examine a series of compromise amendments to be submitted to the vote of the plenary on Wednesday next. The issue, to which the Agriculture Council has linked that of farm prices, could be brought out of deadlock following negotiations which were held between Rapporteur Agnes Schierhuber (EPP, Austria) and the Chair of the Agriculture Committee, Friedrich Graefe zu Baringdorf (Greens, Germany) on one hand, and Commissioner Franz Fischler, on the other. Mr Fischler mainly agreed that aid should be increased for short flax and hemp fibres, to 80 euros per tonne (instead of 70 in the initial proposal). The acceptable rate of humidity would, moreover, be raised from 5 to 7.5%).
