Brussels, 24/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - On the 22 May, the EU Council adopted a decision establishing a Committee for the civilian aspects of crisis management, which will act as the working group of the Council and will report to COREPER. The new Committee will give information and formulate recommendations and opinions on the civilian aspects of crisis management for the Interim Political and Security Committee and the other Council bodies. The Helsinki Summit gave a mandate to the present EU Council Presidency and to the Secretary General/High Representative Javier Solana to continue work in this area. The Lisbon Summit also invited the Council to establish this Committee for civil aspects before the European Council in Feira or during it.
