To counter the bid by Finland's UPM-KYMMENE, the American INTERNATIONAL PAPER, the world's number one company in the sector, has launched a counterbid of USD 8.5 billion on its competitor CHAMPION, topping the Finnish bid by 36%. It is offering 64 dollars for every CHAMPION share. See EI of 19 February.
