26/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Italian Liberal Elisa Pozza Tasca, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called for the establishment of a European Ombudsman for Children. It also called for a ban on the recruitment of child soldiers and the demobilisation of all those "under 18" who are currently serving in the armed forces. Three hundred thousand child soldiers are said to be involved in armed conflicts throughout the world.
