Brussels, 03/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Association of European Journalists (AEJ) has handed to Emanuele Gazzo Prize to the German journalist Hartmut Hausmannn in the presence of the European Commissioner for Education and Culture, Viviane Reding and the President of the European Economic and Social Committee Beatrice Rangoni-Machiavelli, both former professional journalists. Hartmut Hausmann was chosen for his free and independent spirit, and because he has been continually involved in European affairs, the AEJ President explained. Harmut Hausmann has been an independent European journalist for many years for several media in Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland.
"Hartmut Hausmann has devoted himself to the positive aspects of Europe. The new Europe, in this new century, must be understood by citizens; he contributes to that", declared Mrs. Reding.
