Two Japanese giants, Mitsubishi and Asahi Glass, may proceed with joint acquisition of a subsidiary of British Nuclear Fuels

Brussels, 22/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Euorpean Commission has authorised the operation whereby Mitsubishi Corporation (partly through its subsidiary Miteni) and Asahi Glass acquire joint control of F2 Chemical Limited, a subsidiary of British Nuclear Fuels. F2 essentially produces perfluorocarbons (inert fluids) and holds a patent for the production of fluorinated compounds.

The Commission's spokesman announced that, after review, the Community Executive concluded that the operation does not threaten to restrict competition on any of the markets in question, because the parties' combined market share is modest for both inert fluids and fluorinated intermediate chemicals. Further, there are strong competitors on both markets.
