20/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Spokesperson for competition in the European Commission confirmed on Monday that initial contacts had been made with Fiat and General Motors to see whether an alliance between the two automobile groups should be notified to the European competition services. This agreement provides for the formation of a joint-venture for the purchase of equipment and manufacture of engines and General Motors' taking a 20% stake in Fiat.
