Brussels, 23/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Commission condemned on Wednesday the terrorist attack of the previous day, which killed the Socialist Party spokesman for the province of Alava, Mr Buesa Blanco, and his bodyguard. Nothing justifies such attacks, which "undermine fundamental human rights", he stated.
European Parliament President Nicole Fontaine commented that "the resumption of blind violence following the ETA's interruption of the truce demonstrates how important it is for our democracies to remain strong and vigilant". And EP Socialist Group Chair Enrique Baron (Spain) pointed out that, just last Friday, Fernando Buesa had made a speech in Parliament condemning the ETA's radicalisation and terrorism.
