28/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Council has adopted its decision on the protocol fixing fishing possibilities and the Community's financial counterpart for fishing in the waters of Sao Tomé & Principe for the period 1 June 1999 to 31 May 2002. The fishing possibilities are divided up among Member States as follows: 36 cold-storage tuna seining vessels (18 French and 18 Spanish), seven tuna pole-and-line vessels (France) and 33 surface liners (28 Spanish and 5 Portuguese). The annual financial compensation is EUR 318,750. The Community will also finance various actions (scientific programmes, monitoring of fishing zones, administration, training, support for non-industrial fishing) totalling EUR 956,250. The European Parliament approved this protocol last week in Strasbourg.
