24/08/2026 (Agence Europe) – On 3 August, the European Commission published an update to its frequently asked questions (FAQ), aimed at making it easier to implement the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation. An initial version was published at the end of March. This new FAQ comes as several provisions of the Regulation entered into force on 12 August, notably those aimed at limiting the presence of PFAS in food-contact packaging (https://aeur.eu/f/n40 ). As for how these substances will be detected, the Commission states that a huge effort across various industries, civil society organisations, and the competent authorities of the Member States is underway in order to develop a harmonised test protocol. The approach currently recommended by the Commission in its notice, whose first step involves measuring total fluorine levels, remains valid. Link to the update: https://aeur.eu/f/n3z (LC)
