The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Sayyid Bader bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, signed, on Tuesday 21 July, the Establishment Agreement for the new European Union Delegation to the Sultanate of Oman.
This agreement establishes the legal framework needed for the creation and operation of the EU Delegation in Muscat, “marking a significant step forward in deepening the partnership between the European Union and Oman and acknowledging the key role of Oman in the region”, the European External Action Service underlined in a statement. The High Representative said that the EU was ready to appoint an EU ambassador to Oman “as soon as possible” and to establish a full diplomatic presence in Muscat.
“Our cooperation is based on a long tradition of pragmatism, shared objectives and mutual commitment to peace, security and prosperity. This mission will undoubtedly enable us to consolidate these foundations and create a concrete space dedicated to joint projects, initiatives, multilateral dialogues and cultural exchanges”, the minister underlined. He added that the mission would facilitate strategic cooperation and coordination across a wide range of common interests and concerns.
Until now, Oman has been covered by the EU Delegation to Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman.
