On Tuesday 30 June, the European Commission published its annual reports on the implementation of the Green Line Regulation and on the aid programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.
In 2025, there was a record number of 7.79 million authorised crossings along that line, while irregular crossings declined, reaching 2,433.
According to statistics provided by the Republic of Cyprus, the total value of trade in goods with accompanying documents from the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce that actually crossed the Green Line fell by 5.3% in 2025, to €14,430,669.
Moreover, with a budget of €33.7 million allocated in 2025, the aid programme continued to improve food safety and animal welfare standards, notably through emergency measures rapidly implemented in response to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in December 2025. The EU also continued its investments in water and sanitation infrastructure, energy efficiency, air quality and noise monitoring.
Lastly, under the 9th “Cypriot Civil Society in Action” grant scheme, 16 grants worth €2.22 million were awarded to projects focused on environmental protection, sustainable development, reconciliation, confidence-building and the participation of civil society in the settlement process.
