26/05/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 26 May, one of the European Commission’s spokespersons, Balazs Ujvari, confirmed that the proposal for the post-2027 multiannual financial framework was scheduled for 16 July, in response to a question about the total suspension of European funds to Hungary under the ‘rule of law’ conditionality mechanism. Last week, 26 MEPs from the anti-corruption intergroup (German Green Daniel Freund, French Socialist Chloé Ridel), the Committee on Budgetary Control (EPP MEPs Niclas Herbst and Monika Hohlmeier) and the Committee on Budgets (French Socialist Jean-Marc Germain) asked the Commission to urge Hungary to respect ‘EU values’ by increasing the amount of funds already blocked (see EUROPE 13645/32). “We are continuing to study the situation in all EU Member States”, the Commission said on Monday.
