19/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 March, the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, announced that negotiations on the future of Cyprus had made progress for the first time in years. The Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties agreed on measures to build confidence: the opening of four crossing points, demining operations, the establishment of a youth affairs committee and the launch of environmental and solar energy projects. The Cypriot President, Nikos Christodoulides, described the meeting in Geneva on 17 and 18 March as a “ first, positive step towards restarting talks” to resolve the Cyprus question. Mr Christodoulides will brief his European counterparts on the discussions at the European Council meeting to be held on 20 and 21 March. (CG)
