Large number of Member States call for ‘personal connection’ to be weakened and for removals to be made easier under asylum and safe third country concept

On Friday 6 December, Member State representatives discussed the revision of the safe third country concept, with the European Commission due to propose a legislative amendment on this subject and a list of safe third countries in 2025.

Member States were asked to give their views on the challenges they faced in transposing the concept as currently set out in the Asylum Procedures Directive and on the elements that the European Commission should take into account when revising it.
