EU activates Civil Protection Mechanism in Bolivia in response to record number of forest fires

24/09/24 (Agence Europe) – 49 Spanish firefighters and experts have been sent to Bolivia to help the local authorities deal with an upsurge in forest fires, the European Commission said on Tuesday 24 September. Thanks to the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism, previously deployed in Bolivia in 2019 and 2023, 41 Spanish firefighters have been sent to the department of Santa Cruz.
