The informal meeting of European energy ministers on 15 and 16 July (see other news) was the first informal meeting following the European Commission’s announcement on Monday 15 that it would not be sending any Commissioners to these meetings under the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council (see EUROPE B13453A8).

This decision was taken in reaction to the ‘mission for peace’ initiated by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, which included a visit to Russia.
