“worrying” declining trend in LULUCF sinks over past decade persists, according to European Commission

“While the LULUCF sector remains a carbon sink, the worrying trend of a declining LULUCF sink over the past decade persists”, according to a European Commission report published on 15 May, which assesses Regulation 2018/8411 (LULUCF).

This text was amended in 2023 to set new targets for the sector to reach by 2030 and to simplify reporting obligations (see EUROPE B13101A25). The EU’s 2030 target for net greenhouse gas (GHG) absorption in the LULUCF sector is 310 million tonnes...
