Elected on Monday 13 May as the new President of the European Court of Human Rights, Slovenian judge Marko Bošnjak will assume his duties on 2 July, succeeding Irish judge Síofra O'Leary, who became the first woman to hold the position following her election in September 2022.
Born in 1974, Marko Bošnjak is a graduate of the University of Ljubljana, where he spent his career before being elected to the Strasbourg Court in 2016.
