Revenue from taxes on capital rose by 12.5% between 2021 and 2022, according to data published on Friday 15 March by the European Commission. This is due to an increase in corporate profits.
Tax receipts from this tax represented 22.1% of the overall tax mix, compared with 50.6% from taxes on labour and 27.3% from taxes on consumption. Member States collected a record €6,388 billion in taxes in 2022, 8% more than in 2021.
