On Monday 12 February, Indonesia called for consultations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) with the European Union over the latter’s anti-dumping tariffs on Indonesian fatty acids. This is the first stage of the WTO dispute settlement procedure.
Jakarta believes that the European measures are incompatible with WTO rules, in particular the Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
The EU introduced a customs duty on Indonesian fatty acids in January 2023 after identifying a dumping situation (see EUROPE 13103/11).
The WTO consultation phase is now open between the EU and Indonesia. The latter will be able to request the opening of an arbitral tribunal after 60 days, if discussions have not led to an amicable agreement. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
