12/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – Contrary to what we wrote, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) did not postpone the deadline for banning dental amalgam until 2030 when it voted on the report by Marlene Mortler (EPP, Germany) on Thursday 11 January (see EUROPE 13326/25, 13324/6). The vote confirms the date of 1 January 2025, as proposed by the European Commission. Of the five compromise amendments (including that of the rapporteur and the ECR group, which called for a five-year postponement), it was an alternative compromise by the S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA and The Left political groups that prevailed. The European Parliament will vote on this issue on Wednesday 17 January in Strasbourg. See the compromise amendments: https://aeur.eu/f/ad4 (AN)
