European Commission approves Romanian scheme of up to €24 million to improve port capacity and Ukraine/EU Solidarity Lanes

13/10/2023 (Agence Europe)The European Commission announced, on Friday 13 October, that it had approved a Romanian scheme of up to €24 million (RON 118.6 million) to support investment in seaports and inland ports in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The aid should make it possible to improve the operation of the ‘Ukraine-EU Solidarity Lanes’ by overcoming capacity shortfalls in port superstructure, in particular by extending temporary storage capacity and acquiring equipment for short-distance transport. The measure will also facilitate grain transport and their transit through Romanian ports. This scheme, notified under the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (see EUROPE 13138/1), will be partly financed by the Cohesion Fund. The amount of aid will not exceed €2 million per beneficiary and will be granted by 31 December at the latest. (EV)
