29/08/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission adopted a regulation, published on 25 August in the Official Journal of the EU, operating deductions from the fishing quotas available for certain stocks in 2023 on account of overfishing in previous years. The deductions concern several stocks (cod, haddock, blue whiting, etc.) and several EU countries (including Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, and Ireland). In this text (https://aeur.eu/f/8d8 ), the European Commission explains that it has applied the full deduction—i.e., 2,954.752 tonnes, including a multiplying factor of 1.40—to the Portuguese anchovy quota for the 2022 fishing season. As a result, there is no outstanding deduction to be made from the Portuguese quota allocated for this stock for the 2023 fishing season. (LC)
