Russia denounces establishment of EU mission EUMA Armenia

27/01/2023 (Agence Europe)The Russian Foreign Ministry explained on Thursday 26 January that it saw “no ‘added value’ in the supervision of EU ‘experts’ on the events in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border area”. “If Brussels were genuinely interested in peace in the Transcaucasus, it would agree on the terms of its mission’s work with Azerbaijan”, he added. According to Moscow, “the appearance of EU representatives in Armenia’s border regions (...) can only lead to geopolitical confrontation in the region and exacerbate existing contradictions”. “The EU’s attempts to gain a foothold in Armenia at any cost, to push back Russia’s mediation efforts, are likely to harm the fundamental interests of Armenians and Azerbaijanis in their aspirations to return to peaceful development in the region”, the Ministry warned.
