05/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 January, the European Commission announced that it had authorised, under EU State aid rules, France’s plan to grant restructuring aid of €119.3 million in restructuring aid to restore the viability of the airline Air Austral and €17.5 million in aid to compensate the airline for the damage suffered as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic between 17 March and 30 June 2020. Based on the island of Reunion, Air Austral is a French airline that provides territorial continuity between Réunion and its neighbouring islands in the Indian Ocean (Mayotte in particular) and Metropolitan France. These measures will be in place for the duration of the airline’s restructuring plan, i.e. from January 2022 until March 2025. (CG)
