European Commission opens in-depth investigation into Vivendi’s proposed acquisition of Lagardère

On Wednesday 30 November, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation to assess the proposed acquisition of Lagardère by Vivendi under the EU Merger Regulation.

Vivendi and Lagardère are French multimedia groups active, among other things, in book and magazine publishing. As regards these markets, Vivendi (via Editis) and Lagardère (via Hachette) are major players in the publishing of French-language books in the French-speaking countries of the European Union.
