2021 a “dramatic” year given scale of forest fires in EU, says JRC

31/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) published, on Monday 31 October, the latest edition of its Annual Report on Forest Fires in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa covering the year 2021. The report concludes that last year’s fire season in the EU was the second largest in terms of area burnt (since the first statistics were compiled in 2006), behind 2017, when more than 10,000 km² were burnt.
