20/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, called on the European Council, on Thursday 20 October, for a revision of the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027. According to her, the MFF “lacks the resources and flexibility to respond to crises or to finance new priorities” such as humanitarian aid, reconstruction of Ukraine, the global food crisis or political ambitions in energy and defence. “I am not talking about more transfers from Member States, I am not talking about increasing the budget, I am talking about responding to emerging needs and new priorities. Progress must also be made on own resources for the EU budget”, she added in front of the press. The European Commission will present proposals in the second quarter of 2023 (see EUROPE 13045/17).
