22/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 August, the European Commission opened a public consultation period - which will end on 22 November - to revise the rules on harmonised river information services. In concrete terms, the Commission intends to use this initiative to remedy the shortcomings of these services, which, among other things, enable traffic and transport management in the field of inland navigation and guarantee the safety and efficiency of inland waterway transport in the EU. In addition, the future text should also seek to streamline the way in which technical standards are currently set and take account of recent developments, particularly in the field of digitalisation.
