22/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Commission allocated, on 3 August, €171 million for projects supporting reception, asylum and return systems in Cyprus, Spain, Greece, Italy and Poland, according to a statement. This sum is the result of a competitive call launched at the beginning of 2022 to finance projects under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. In Cyprus, the aid will go towards the construction of an accommodation and pre-departure centre. In Spain, it will be dedicated to the reinforcement of the capacity of the reception system in Ceuta and Canary Islands. In Italy, the aid will focus on strengthening the capacities of the reception system. In Greece, financial support will go to international organisations to improve the quality of protection assistance for asylum seekers received within the reception system. Lastly, support to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Poland will include improving return procedures. (SP)
