European Parliament calls for stronger international response to Burmese coup

MEPs wanted to mark the anniversary of the 1 February 2021 coup in Myanmar. On Thursday 10 March, they adopted a new resolution on this subject (646 votes in favour, 1 against, 20 abstentions). 

They again condemn the violence committed by the Burmese army against the population. They also regret that the United Nations (UN) Security Council has not considered a draft resolution on Myanmar. They therefore call on “EU Member States and the European External Action Service to lobby the...
