The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has identified three priorities in its Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2022-2024 published on Thursday 10 February: tackling greenwashing, strengthening the capacity of national supervisors and monitoring markets and environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks.
This document sets out ESMA’s deliverables on sustainable finance and how they will be implemented over the next 3 years. In this way, the authority contributes to the development of the corpus rules on sustainable finance, its application and consistent monitoring to promote investor protection in the EU.
“I am confident that ESMA’s actions will play a key role in contributing to the European Green Deal and in protecting European investors on this journey”, said the Chair of ESMA, Verena Ross. She also claims that “investor preferences are shifting towards environmentally friendly financial products”.
