The European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, and the Colombian Minister of Environment, Carlos Eduardo Correa, signed a joint declaration on Monday 14 February to establish an EU-Colombia dialogue on the environment, climate action and sustainable development.
“The EU and Colombia will work hand in hand on our green agenda and today’s declaration is another important step in this direction”, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
With this non-binding text, the EU and Colombia intend to strengthen technical cooperation between their two administrations and to support the exchange of views, experiences and best practices on environment and climate.
The declaration focuses on key priorities shared by both sides, the Commission said in a statement, including climate action, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, disaster risk reduction, combating deforestation, circular economy, sustainable blue economy and plastic pollution.
The signing of the declaration comes two weeks before the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi (28 February to 2 March).
