19/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – Citing the continuing “uncertainty” linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, the European Banking Authority (EBA) maintained on Monday 17 January the need to continue to monitor the evolution of the banking sector’s exposures and the quality of loans granted with public support (moratorium on repayments, public guarantee). The guidelines it unveiled in June 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic therefore remain valid. As a result, European banks are still required to report their specific data beyond 31 December 2021, unless the supervisor has explicitly indicated otherwise. In the third quarter of 2021, the level of non-performing loans (NPLs) in the EU was estimated at €419 billion, or 2.1% of total outstanding loans, according to the European authority (see EUROPE 12865/17).
