The Council of Europe is organising an international online conference on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 October on “Women’s Access to Justice: delivering on the Istanbul Convention and other European gender equality standards”.
Opened by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, this Conference aims to promote the standards of the Council of Europe on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the subject of the Istanbul Convention, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary). In particular, it will examine practical measures and actions to ensure women’s access to justice.
Another important aspect is the analysis of the challenges and actions to be taken in order to move towards the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by the Eastern Partnership countries (a joint Council of Europe/European Union initiative towards partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova).
Three days ago, Marija Pejčinović Burić welcomed on Twitter the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by the Moldovan Parliament.
