On Thursday 30 September, the European Commission published an implementing regulation extending the export authorisation mechanism for Covid-19 vaccines until 31 December.
This mechanism expired on 30 September. The Member States agreed with the European Commission’s request to keep this mechanism in force.
The mechanism requires vaccine producers to seek authorisation from the Member State in which they are based before they can export their doses.
Since its inception on 30 January and up until 28 September, more than 2,600 applications for exports to 556 countries have been approved, totalling 738 million doses. Only one application was rejected.
