27/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – Migration ministers from the EU’s five southern and frontline countries, the ‘Med5’ - Spain, Greece, Malta, Italy and Cyprus - met on 25 September in Malaga to call for a “fair” and “compulsory” distribution of responsibilities within the EU for managing migration, as well as for a system of relocating asylum seekers. But they also felt, as did Greek Migration Minister Notis Mitarachi, that their countries could move forward on these issues without waiting for an agreement on the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’. “The New Pact is not a precondition for action. We can already achieve better results on the external dimension, border protection and returns, within the existing legal framework”, the minister said on Twitter. (SP)
