14/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 September, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office announced in a statement that it had opened 300 investigations since its launch on 1 June, for an estimated loss of EUR 4.5 billion. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office, which fights fraud against the EU’s financial interests and VAT fraud (see EUROPE 12731/2), has received 1,700 reports. Cross-border VAT fraud, estimated at over EUR 14 million, has already led to raids in Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary in early August (see EUROPE 12774/27). The seizures made in these 300 investigations exceed EUR 10 million, but no investigation has been linked to European recovery funds so far. (SP)
