On 4 August, the European Commission adopted a decision allowing farmers to receive larger advances on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) payments.
This measure will support and increase the liquidity of farmers affected by the Covid-19 crisis and the impact of bad weather conditions across the EU.
Member States will be entitled to pay farmers income aid and certain support under rural development programmes with a higher level of advance payments: up to 70% (instead of 50%) of direct payments and 85% (instead of 75%) of support under rural development programmes.
Safeguards to protect the EU budget apply so that payments can be made once checks and verifications have been finalised and from 16 October 2021.
