European Commission threatens Warsaw with financial penalties if it does not comply with Court of Justice’s judgment on disciplinary regime for judges

On Tuesday 20 July, the European Commission has empowered the Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, to force Poland to comply with the EU Court of Justice judgment requiring the suspension of the disciplinary regime for Polish judges, alongside the presentation of the second annual Rule of law report (see other news).

This judgment was challenged by the Polish Constitutional Court, which declared the Court of Justice's judgment to be incompatible with the Polish Constitution (see EUROPE...
