The European Commission proposed, on Wednesday 14 July, to revise upwards the targets assigned to the Member States in order to allow the European Union to reduce by 40% by 2030 compared to 2005 (i.e. 11% more than the current target of 29%) its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in sectors (transport, construction, agriculture, waste management) not covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) or by the LULUCF Regulation on land use.
