08/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – As part of the recast of fisheries controls, the S&D and Greens/EFA groups in the European Parliament will put to the plenary vote, on Tuesday 9 March, an amendment providing for a minimum percentage of 12-metre fishing vessels (with a high risk of non-compliance with the landing obligation) to be equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. The European Parliament Committee on Fisheries had provided for an optional system for such cameras on board, except where a vessel has committed at least two serious infringements of the rules (see EUROPE 12663/11). The Renew Europe Group presented an amendment close to the ideas of the Committee on Fisheries: a minimum percentage of vessels, on a voluntary basis, with continuous electronic monitoring systems (mandatory CCTV if they have committed at least two serious infringements).
