26/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – “We are proud to be back”, said the new US Climate Envoy, John Kerry, on Monday 25 January, at his first public appearance on the international stage at a two-day summit on climate change adaptation organised by the Netherlands. During the summit, various leaders of countries and international organisations, such as the IMF and the World Bank, committed to strengthen their efforts on climate adaptation. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has pledged that Germany will provide a total of 270 million euros in additional funding for climate adaptation for vulnerable communities. Believing that the summit did not lead to any new substantive action, the humanitarian association CARE International regretted that the leaders did not address the fact that developed countries are still not meeting their commitments on climate financing (see EUROPE 12639/23).
